About the Show

Part of FringeNYC: It might be the end of the world, and three friends gather to say goodbye: to the island that harbored their childhood summers, the traumatic event that's defined their lives, and the magical creatures lurking just beneath the water's surface.

Great acting, Intelligent, Entertaining, Poetic

See it if you want to be entertained by strong acting, relatable characters, good dialogue.

Don't see it if you don't appreciate things taking a turn for the "magical." You need high production values.

Resonant, Slow

See it if you relate to frustrated, flawed characters in their late 20s or early 30s and you're OK with a talky, contemplative little play.

Don't see it if you need a finished product. This was the one Fringe show I'd like to see later in development - trim 10-15 minutes, improve sound design.

Resonant, Original, Quirky, Great writing, Great acting

See it if you enjoy strong performances and magical realism with a clever, modern day take on an ancient myth

Don't see it if unfortunately the venue gets very hot and can be a concern for patrons.

Ambitious, Absorbing

See it if you're interested in a tangled tale of complicated friendships and dark secrets revealed in a well-written script.

Don't see it if if you don't enjoy sweating in a room so poorly air-conditioned that audience resorted to fanning with programs. Get some A/C in this venue!

Theatre is Easy
August 24th, 2016

"The last three rows lose a great deal of dialogue between the fans and the loud wave noise blasting from back-of-house speakers…Apart from this unfortunate issue, 'Bodies of Water' is a fresh exploration of what it means to be our best selves...Clearly channeling Lanford Wilson more than Hans Christian Andersen, and that ambition cradles Margot’s compelling story...A tighter hand on the reins, and a different venue, will perhaps help 'Bodies of Water' fulfill its great potential."

Theatre Reviews Limited
August 26th, 2016

"The individuals are interesting and their interaction pivotal to the story but the dialogue sometimes lacks the ability to add depth to the characters…In the present state, the playwright Erin Breznitsky needs to tighten the script and trust her characters with some inspired dialogue. It will be interesting to see where this engaging play will surface with a few changes and a clearer look at the message which is floating in cloudy water right now."
