A solo performance that documents the music, culture, and politics that shaped the Baby Boomers (1945-1969). More…
From the show:
100 voices. 25 years. 1 man.
Rick Miller takes us through 25 turbulent years and gives voice to over 100 influential politicians, activists, and musicians. BOOM is a mind-blowing experience for audiences of all generations.
See it if Like disjointed frenetic paced nostalgic visit through 1945-1969. Possibly better if you are involved with Canadian hockey and issues
Don't see it if Prefer insight or get confused by rapid changes of accents. Prefer longer sections of key songs of time and not in costumes that seem parody
See it if you don't mind being asked to sing along to American Pie. You like impersonations. As a love letter to RM's mother, this is rather sweet.
Don't see it if you have no interest the the Baby Boomers. The piece is too long and needs cutting. A letdown after MacHomer.
See it if you cut history class, haven’t read a newspaper & need to know what’s been happening in the world for the last 80 years. Interesting staging
Don't see it if you’re expecting a musical representing the last 80 year’s. The singer tries hard to imitate the great Pop singets, but rarely succeeds.
See it if You like 1 man shows with a multitude of different personas portrayed and multi-dimensional with video, dialogue and music.
Don't see it if You like an ensemble cast or don’t want to hear the performers take of his parents views of the baby boomer generation.
See it if you'd like a tuneful walk down memory lane, complete with a bit of acting, decent singing, a bit of family (the actor's) history/nostalgia.
Don't see it if you prefer excellent acting and singing, "plot" more than shallow and banal, offering some creativity and insight.
See it if The writer/actor/director is ambitious. If you want a history lesson, this is the show for you!
Don't see it if you want serious theater that evokes feelings
See it if The songs bring back memories. The idea for the show is a good one and the solo performer seems to have the time of his life.
Don't see it if A little hackneyed. His history not always on the button. Too borscht belt for my taste.
See it if You want to see a one-man team (not especially musical) take cynical cultural & political potshots at entire generation, its parents & kids.
Don't see it if You expect a set of 50s & 60s songs. Talented actor has good voice but is more insubstantial mimic than theatrical master. Dreadful panache.
See it if Received low grades for your historical project(even many years ago)and still want to fix it;can follow family line mixed with famous events
Don't see it if Want something that looks like a show, prefer more music and do not care about author's relatives(their stories were interesting)
See it if Bravura performance of snippets from the 50s 60s & 70s with a Canadian slant. Told in the voices of his mom & uncle, who lived thru it.
Don't see it if ... you've had enough of nostalgic recollections of the baby boomer era. His next show will be about GenXers, then a third for GenYZ.
See it if if you know little about the history of the 40's across the 60's through the view of a Canadian.
Don't see it if If you expect to see a show in which there is a reason to have the show.
