About the show

Amy Heckerling takes us back to 90s Beverly Hills with this musical version of her beloved film "Clueless," a modern spin on Jane Austen’s "Emma." More…

With her singular voice, she gives us a score that reimagines 90s hits into parodies and yearning monologues for her lovesick characters. Director Kristin Hanggi ("Rock of Ages") and choreographer Kelly Devine ("Come from Away") drive this fresh take on the story of Cher, a girl so psychotically optimistic she can’t see that her bungling attempts at playing Cupid disguise her own fashion-plated isolation.

Great singing, Banal, Cliched, Disappointing, Insipid

See it if You want to see a star-on-the-rise talent in Dove Cameron.

Don't see it if You’re sick of materialistic high schooler stories & would hate a score of 90s pop music with new, but incredibly bad, parody-style lyrics.

Maybe we should take a break from high school musicals... “as if” ... that’s “way harsh”

See it if the movie was adorable... the musical needs a “makeover”.

Don't see it if 90s soundtrack with new lyrics that are forced in to fit the characters and storyline; many of the well known movie lines fell flat...

Also ... the movie lines in Mean Girls worked, it didn’t in Clueless. It wa... Read more Read less

Banal, Dull

See it if you enjoy overly miked mediocre singing, music that sounds canned, and a story that was ruined by making it into a vapid musical.

Don't see it if you have any taste at all. Stick to the movie.

Also The lyrics are unimaginative. The dance numbers are ho-hum, and most o... Read more Read less

Banal, Disappointing, Horrible lyrics, Excruciating

See it if you (or your tween) are huge Dove Cameron fans and have a pressing need to see her live.

Don't see it if you are expecting ANY new/original music or a show that effectively navigates the line between good "cheeze" and stinky "cheeze".

Also Sadly, this is perhaps one of the worst things I've seen in a long tim... Read more Read less

Disappointing, Ill-conceived, Unbelievable, Confounding, Great music

See it if you'd like to see what happens when someone who wrote an excellent screenplay is unable to translate it into a compelling stage musical.

Don't see it if you like the movie Clueless, or you value the craft of lyric writing.

Banal, Cliched, Dated, Disappointing

See it if you like high school kids' shows. If you like silly remarks, short scenes, one liners.

Don't see it if you saw the movie...that is enough. Musical has lots of hip hop type dancing, empty headed high school kids. Very repetitious.

Also this show "has been done before"....generic. Lyrics are forced rhyme, ... Read more Read less

A train-wreck, Ridiculous, Groan-inducing

See it if you're missing '90s music (exactly!) so much - you're willing to hear it being butchered through 2.5 hours of cliched inane lyrics & acting

Don't see it if you're looking for cleverness, originality, an actual story, characters to like, in a show that's not even good enough to be camp. Stay away

Also It takes a certain amount of effort and nerve to write a show that dea... Read more Read less

Disappointing, Funny, Great singing, Irrelevant, Unfocused

See it if you want a rather shallow look back at the 90's that borrows a lot of tunes from that era but with new, often unsuccessful lyrics.

Don't see it if you want a well-structured musical comedy with stakes -- this seems to meander and ultimately it's hard to care.

Inane, soporific

See it if you are, or feel like, an easy-to-please 16 year old girl.

Don't see it if amateurism in a professional context vexes you.

Also With this and MEAN GIRLS both opening this season, NYC is inundated wi... Read more Read less

Confusing, Disappointing, Excruciating

See it if You want to someone who should never do musical theatre. The star girl lead, Dove, has a frozen face. Can not act at all.

Don't see it if If you are expecting anything remotely close to the movie. This is simply a hot mess!
