About the show

In this '80s-set comedy, a man tries to appease his parents by hiring his ten-year-old downstairs neighbor to play his son. After a successful limited run earlier this year, the show transfers Off-Broadway. More…

It is 1982 and Donald Moscowitz has overbearing parents. They disapprove of his choice of profession (actor), his flair for decorating (pastels), and his lifestyle (homosexual). The one thing that would make them happy is a grandchild. His solution: pay the kid downstairs to pose as his son. What could possibly go wrong?

See it if you can stomach characters who are offensive stereotypes.

Don't see it if you are easily offended by less than stellar writing.

Entertaining

See it if You'll appreciate the far-funnier 2nd act with many surprises, people pretending to be other people, a funny drag queen, etc.

Don't see it if You want a fast-paced show, as the first act drags and has uneven acting. Should eliminate the intermission.

Felt like a live version of a bad "three's company" sitcom episode

See it if Stereotypical characters in a plot built entirely around a silly deception concept, misunderstandings, mistaken identities and coincidences

See it if You like old fashioned farce. Sam Given's flamboyant performance as a drag queen friend/neighbor is worth the price of admission! He's fab!

See it if You like zippy, zany, larger than life comedies! Reads like a sitcom, and the humor is on point. Definitely a worthwhile night of theater.

Don't see it if You have trouble suspending your disbelief. This show is all about laughs and well timed awkward moments, and not for the analysing brain.

See it if You want to see funny and great actor Yuval David on stage. His hilarious reactions to the other silly/funny characters keep the show alive.

Don't see it if The direction seems off. The script or the direction can probably be better. The play has potential to be better and funnier. Shallow humor.

See it if This is a silly, light-hearted, sitcom-like show. Starring the adorable, funny, talented, & sexy Yuval David. I'd be his "Marry Ellen!" Yum.

Don't see it if This is not heavy theatre -- it is a great comedy, perfect for the world today, to just laugh a lot with the silly characters & their goals.

Over the top, Silly, Excruciating, Disappointing, Dated

See it if To see a failing show's 2nd chance. The last cast was fun. Fire the director for this awful version, painfully presenting inept caricatures.

Don't see it if No substance to the script, production, or dated shallow material. See it if you are voting for Trump & believe in simplistic stereotypes.

"With its cast of swishy gays, kvetching Jews, and drunken Irish, it serves as a veritable compendium of stage clichés, for easy reference. Drama students could also profitably use it as a case study in how not to construct a farce...Quite apart from its poor construction, Goldberg's script conta...
