Don't see it if you expect a traditional musical, hate Bob Dylan, prefer a happy ending

Great singing, Insipid, Overrated, Slow

See it if You like Bob Dylans music and good singing a 1930's set story with a large cast.

Don't see it if Show has music that doesnt match the story and you may not enjoy it if you are not a Bob Dylan fan.

Resonant, Great singing, Ambitious, Entertaining, Intense

See it if A beautifully conceived and performed theater piece, moving, poetic, feels classic yet original. Gorgeous arrangements of Dylan's music

Don't see it if You are put off by plays that are set in 1930s Mid-America, are not strictly realistic drama or musical theater,or that echo Wilder, Saroyan

Also Dylan's words and music are not used to tell the story so much as to e... Read more Read less

See it if you appreciate Dylan's music and you're okay with non-traditional storytelling and like beautiful singing.

Don't see it if you're looking for a "musical." This is a play with music, the music sets a tone, intention, and emotion, but does not further the plot.

Great singing, Exquisite

See it if Singing that reminds you how many super talented people there are out there. The story line is bleak and gets bleaker but hey, that's life

Don't see it if you don't like Poet Laureate words brought alive

"A rich and strange marriage of the talents...If you’re a hard-core Dylan fan, you’ve heard these songs before. But, for me at least, they’ve never sounded quite so heartbreakingly personal and universal at the same time...The most imaginative and inspired use to date of a popular composer’s song...

"The show makes Dylan’s songs as unfamiliar as it can; it freezes them in timelessness...'Girl from the North Country' doesn’t have much plot, but it provides a compelling setting for Dylan’s plangent lyrics, whose range encompasses yearning, bitter confusion and grace. McPherson uses Dylan’s son...

"The play is a somber, self-serious affair. In searching for the soul in Dylan’s tunes, McPherson, who also directs the show, and his orchestrator and arranger Simon Hale have consistently sapped them of their mischievous spark...'Girl From the North Country' never quite stops feeling like a dirg...

"McPherson attempts to surround several of Dylan’s tunes with a frame vague enough to contain their poetry and broad enough to relate their social truths...A show that fully accepted the challenge of Dylan’s elusive balance between unstable consciousness and tough social fact might have told more...
