"It is an interesting, educational, and cutting take on the history everyone knows is there but do not know enough to actually discuss with anyone else, leaving everyone to wrongly assume it must not be important...However, Leguizamo's terrible racist impressions of other minority groups weaken his stance...They are unnecessary and undercut his whole argument, all for the sake of cheap laughs. The subject matter and the audience deserve better than that."

“He wows us with his comic characterizations and high energy Latin beat dance moves, giving us a master class in the art of putting on a personal storytelling show. What it lacks in high conflict resolution it makes up in sweet father/child dynamics...It couldn’t be delivered with such a big dose of heart and humor by anyone else but this incomparable performer...Sometimes it feels a tad bit on the light side and unfocused, but the personal drive is always present.”

"Hilarious and surprisingly enlightening...For all its deeply felt honesty, the show is no pity party; in fact, more often, it’s a real party where audience members feel free to hoot, holler, clap, and get up and meringue...It’s a tough balancing act, one which Leguizamo manages with the skill of the most experienced tightrope walker...While he may not have the impersonation skills of the world’s greatest mimics, each of the personae he takes on are wonderfully delineated.”

“’Latin History’ exists on three planes – fascinating nuggets of actual history, eclectic comic shtick, and a funny, tender story of the performer’s efforts to connect with his family...He intersperses this kinetic collage with sexy, high-octane dance breaks that have been his signature...Leguizamo is maturing...For the Broadway transfer, Loreta’s still around, but she’s toned down and clarified, as are several of the jokes. Leguizamo has also sharpened his cultural and political critiques."

"Where this show is seriously entertaining, it is also thought provoking. Leguizamo makes a strong case for the Latin people having more rights to be in America than Americans...There are lines that are so funny and sadly truthful...He manages to create an important discussions on race and intolerance, while discussing it as comedic theatre. Leguizamo’s brilliance has come a long way. Taccone directs this piece with panache and flair...This is a lesson we all need."

“Leguizamo’s 90-minute show may best be enjoyed by theatergoers who are very familiar with the last 3,000 years of life in the Western Hemisphere...Both informative and hysterically funny in the way Leguizamo takes a subject and turns our perceptions inside out...It’s a surreal journey and most enjoyable in little offhand moments...The most fun you’ll have in a classroom since 'Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All.'"

“Leguizamo is back, as smart, provocative and bracing as ever. And wise...He attempts to explicate 'Latin History for Morons'. The main moron being addressed, in this dazzling comedic-analytic-philosophic evening of laughter, appears to be Leguizamo himself...He effortlessly channels dozens of disparate characters...The actor still has the moves, and he doesn’t mind livening up the tempo now and then...The man knows his audience, and his Latin lesson is a treat.”

"One of the funniest shows in town...The working of family into the show provides the chance for sentiment to embellish the comedy. Sometimes that slows things down a bit, but it injects heart into what Leguizamo is seriously dispensing beneath all of the hilarity. And hilarity is the right word, for Leguizamo is a master of timing, physical comedy...and overall cleverness...In this show he rises majestically above what I have seen him achieve previously."
