About the show

This new drama centers around the riveting true story of the Little Rock Nine, the first black students to attend their city’s formerly segregated central high school. More…

What began as their quest for a better education soon became a national crisis, igniting the passions of a divided country and sparking a historic fight for justice in the Jim Crow South. On the cusp of the civil rights movement, a changing world watched as these nine children from Arkansas battled for their rights with only books and pencils. At once harrowing and hopeful, 'Little Rock' brings urgently to life the Nine’s untold personal stories of challenge and resilience, conjuring memories of America not so long ago.

Ambitious, Disappointing, Overrated

See it if A melodrama made for tv. A story that goes many directions but does not stay focused.

Don't see it if Sporadic acting, a show that is not solid in script in that lack of focus, consistency.

69
Relevant, Intense, Intelligent, Disappointing, Ambitious

See it if you ever curious about the personal story about what it was like to be those Little Rock students

Don't see it if you were expecting some soul searching play about the the Little Rock students, this is not it. TOO much gloss. Not enough grit!!!!

Banal, Cliched, Disappointing, Undramatic, Slow

See it if Some decent singing is enough for you.

Don't see it if You are looking for a dramatic or compelling presentation of the events of Little Rock integration.

Waste of a talented cast, Cliche upon cliche ruins would should be a powerful story, Educational

See it if You don't know much of anything about our Civil Rights history

Don't see it if You are looking for a serious or modern play about race - this isn't it

Ambitious, Great singing, Earnest, Uneven, Disappointing

See it if you want to see a well meaning theatrical presentation of an important time in our history. Great performances from most of the actors.

Don't see it if you are looking for a history play done with new ideas or creativity. It feels like a very good college production.

Also There were moments that were very effecting. The talented actors need ... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Cliched, Great singing, Thought-provoking, Disappointing

See it if you like documentary drama. There isn't much pulse to it, but there is lots of information. The actors outshone the script by a mile.

Don't see it if the Little Rock 9 isn't a part of history you care about. You like your plays to have focus and heart.

Ambitious, Disappointing, Indulgent, Relevant

See it if you are interested in learning about this aspect of US history and the civil rights movement.

Don't see it if you want more than a history lesson. That sounds harsher than I mean. This is important US history, but there's no real dramatic conflict.

Also Little Rock means well, and it's an important part of our history, but... Read more Read less

Great acting, Disappointing

See it if history and musicals good individual actors

Don't see it if each individual actor is GREAT however they do not sync with each other. The story should have been great but was very repetitive.

Disappointing, Slow, Thought-provoking

See it if You want to see a slice of history about life in the south in the 1950's. I found the script and the staging lacking. The music was great.

Don't see it if You like good writing and staging. This needs work.

“Viscerally affecting...This is activist theater...Maharaj lays everything on worrisomely thick and fast. Each character reads as two-dimensional...But the play gradually rights itself, and the complexity of the students and their situation comes into focus...Dialogue sometimes suffers from the s...

"That research shows in this highly informative, tuneful, and heavy-handed show. You'll learn a lot about this pivotal moment in school desegregation, but perhaps not so much about how to craft an artful theatrical story line...Unfortunately, most of the acting is not fully fleshed-out, often ver...

“There's no point in pretending that this is a sophisticated or accomplished dramatic work...Poorly constructed, stubbornly failing to build dramatic excitement. The playwright, who also directed, struggles to realize the large cast of characters...The dialogue is loaded with obvious and redundan...

"The playwright Mr. Maharaj, who also directs, handles this difficult material with great skill and clarity, and he is most fortunate in his nine-member cast, who take on some 50 different roles between them and manage to make most of them come realistically to life as individuals...Problematical...
