About the Show

The 'The Golden Girls' parody with puppets returns for The Final Farewell.

An evening of cheesecake, laughter, Jazzercise, shoulder pads, sex, and the elegant art of the quick-witted put down. Devoted fans and first-timers alike will experience the classic TV series on stage, including Sophia's get-rich-quick schemes, Rose's St. Olaf tales, Blanche's insatiable hunt for men, and Dorothy's daily struggle to keep her roommates in check while fending off her pesky ex-husband once and for all.

All characters are portrayed by 'Avenue Q'-style puppets, with the puppeteers visible. The puppets were built by Rockefeller Productions ('Winnie the Pooh').

The show returned to New York in April for its 'final farewell' run, which features a new script.

See it if you're interested in it. It's fun, but too long. They could cut 20-30 minutes of the show, and it'd be much better. It's silly fluff.

Don't see it if you have no desire to see it, you hate puppets, you don't like The Golden Girls, you want to actually see a good show.

See it if you enjoy the Golden Girls and puppetry. If you're a fan of the t.v. show the play is like two or three episodes strung together.

See it if you want to imagine, amidst the perfectly recreated set, expertly crafted puppets & accurate portrayals, what a fun homage it could've been.

Don't see it if you expect the same ratio of laughs per minute as the tv show; you expect a parody. (The writing's as toothless as Sophia w/o her dentures.)

"Filled with hilarious gags and zingers...The show eventually falters by relying solely on the popularity of these sassy, larger-than-life women and their personalities more than a clear plot for the audience to grasp. At times the pacing lags and the jokes feel forced...The play really begins to reach for new material, or fill in time, toward the latter part...The real magic is experiencing how the original material from the television show translates to a world of smart-mouthed puppets."
