About the show

Spicy Witch Productions presents Thomas Middleton's classic Jacobean revenge drama. More…

In this year's 'Tragislasher' repertory season, Spicy Witch Productions investigates gendered violence and hypocritical sexual expectations. While a contemporary audience can poke fun at some of the more over-the-top puritanical sexism in 'The Revenger's Tragedy,' the 'she was asking for it' argument remains ever present in our culture. Running in repertory with 'Bonesetter: A Tragislasher,' this adaptation of Middleton's play seeks to examine the misogyny of this centuries-old text to reveal how it still governs our sexual politics today.

Theatre is Easy

"This strong cast poignantly shows their characters’ varied faults and questionable sensibilities...The set up offers the audience an immersive experience. We don’t just get to watch a bloodbath on stage, we’re in the splash zone...Still, I do wonder if there were more opportunities to use the round to draw the audience even closer to the story...If you are a lover of classics then you should definitely check out 'The Revenger’s Tragedy.'" Ambitious, Confusing, Intelligent, Great writing, Clever

See it if U want to see a Jacobean revenge tragedy they might have been watching in 1606- fun when all the villanry pays off in teeth, tongue & blood!

Don't see it if U need a simpler play-It's v confusing & I'd recommend a synopsis prior. A bit amateur w/uneven performances in parts, but not oft performed

Classical camp, Funny, Uneven acting, Entertaining, Quirky

See it if You like classical theatre. You like camp. You don't mind gender-swapped casting. You're OK w/stage violence. You want a rare classical play.

Don't see it if You don't like classical theatre. You want more traditional casting. You want a more well known classical playwright. You dislike violence.
