About the show

Amazing Theatricals presents one of the world’s top magic artists, Helder Guimarães, in his brand-new show. More…

Intimate and enigmatic, witty and unorthodox, 'Verso' is Helder’s most daunting journey into the impossible yet. He pushes the very limits of magic and illusion, and challenges how much you’re willing to believe.

Derivative, Not as surprising as it needed to be, Padded

See it if you haven't seen the popular explosion of "wow" inducing illusions on network TV these days, & you like audience participation.

Don't see it if you're looking for a fast paced show with tricks you've never seen before. Most of these feel dated and a little tired.

Clever, Intelligent, Insipid, Thought-provoking

See it if you want to watch clever magic tricks and you haven't seen lots of illusionists.

Don't see it if you don't like illusionists shows.

Also It was a one man show, in a stage. Some tricks were funny, other were ... Read more Read less

Great staging, Fluffy, Overrated, Slow, Funny

See it if You really, really like card tricks. You don't mind not knowing how magic tricks get done. Are interested in seeing a mentalist at work.

Don't see it if You go to a lot of magic shows. You hate magic or audience participation.

Also I am by no means a magic show viewer but I had seen many of these tric... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Slow, Disappointing, Likeable enough magician but show falls flat

See it if You would enjoy a magic act that is primarily focused on card tricks.

Don't see it if You are unimpressed by card tricks - especially when those tricks don't workout. Just not enough here to hold a NY audience.

Entertaining, Funny, Slow, Repetitious

See it if You are a big fan of magic and illusions that includes a little bit of storytelling and audience participation

Don't see it if You don't care for card tricks which is mostly his focus.

Disappointing, Overrated, Slow

See it if You like card tricks and a bit of slight of hand. The ad campaign makes it seem much more than it is. This felt more like a cruise ship act.

Don't see it if I wanted to like it, but the sets and lighting made all the tricks seem like set ups and the delivery was weak.

Boring, Slow, Repetitive, Funny

See it if You enjoy close-up magic and a lot of card tricks.

Don't see it if You have trepidation about audience participation although not sitting in the front row lessens the chance. Not all the tricks worked.

Also The show is very long. It started 15 mins late and the intermission ra... Read more Read less

"The fun here is in searching for potential telltale clues and fake-outs as he casually ambles his way from sleight-of-hand flimflam to pseudo-telepathic reads...It’s harder to fill a whole evening when you’re alone onstage, and while it sports some impressive feats, the new show, directed by Rod...

"Verging on two hours long, including an intermission, it includes what seems like a lot of padding, at a cost to its sense of enchantment...Routines that would be very impressive at a table in a nightclub are less of a wow in a 200-seat theater...Many of the bits are familiar...Although 'Verso' ...

"It almost feels like a seminar on the psychology of the swindle...In a craft as reliant on the suspension of disbelief as magic, it's a ballsy choice to ask viewers to sharpen their BS-detectors, but that's exactly what Guimarães does consistently through this thought-provoking show. Luckily for...

"The trick here is that Guimarães never seems completely confident that what he's doing is going to work, and when he seems to have been foiled a couple of times, his imperfection adds to the illusion that everything else is real. At two hours, the show does lose steam now and then, especially wh...
