Girl Inside the Mirror/Pregnant Pause

See it if you'd like to see 2 different short pieces—a slice-of-life monolog & a multi-player dance-play—that consider the place of women's bodies.

Don't see it if you can't take one-person shows (the 1st half of the bill) or dance-plays (the 2nd).

Also I found both pieces uneven & both worth the experience. The opening monolog delivered by a woman pregnant with a “sick” child even as she is on the verge of her 1st Broadway show feels a bit too loaded for pathos. And lots of the details about past life & her & her husband’s family backgrounds get lost. But the pathos of the essential question the woman faces, to abort or not—& wondering what her decision will say about her—survive. The dance-play of the 2nd half evokes Beckett’s late stage & TV plays with their precisely lit & robed figures executing movement patterns. The “plot” suggests that a central mover/speaker has multiple personalities, a lot of them present in other women movers. She confronts a couple of doubles before play’s end. But some of the most successful bits here undercut the preciousness of the images with laugh-out loud absurdist humor. See it if Excellent solo acting about a relevant situation

Don't see it if You have trouble with the prochoice position being expressed well. The prolife position was not expressed as well although it was implied

See it if You enjoy great storytelling! Pregnant Pause is written really well and acted by a master storyteller.

Don't see it if If you prefer action movies or vulgar shows that provide lame storytelling.

Also Pregnant Pause is something worth seeing if you want to hear one woman dealing with a heavy, life-changing moment in her life. If you ever been through challenging problems, and we all have, this will connect with you and even might help you cope.

See it if you love open/poignant discussions about tricky personal moral dilemma's. It draws you into Essie's struggle leaving you wanting more

Don't see it if You don't like Frank real life situations. But see it anyway! to challenge yourself. It's explicit and honest in a great way

Also I loved how it spoke openly about usually deemed private real life problems that people are too afraid to discuss. I too was a little bothered by the late comers who were a little distracting but that happens so often in theater and if it had gotten too distracting I would have politely asked them to sit still. See it if you wish to be thoroughly entertained by the fantastic actor, Amie Cazel! She pulls the audience into her story, creating such interest !

Don't see it if you don't have a pulse.

See it if You’d like to hear from a real actor and woman about how to be both in this crazy business.

Don't see it if There’s no reason to not go see Pregnant Pause. The second show is geared to a very particular taste.
