About the show

HERE presents the world premiere of this drama about a commercial real estate broker who receives a heart transplant, and finds himself forever changed. More…

Barry Weiss is a hotshot broker: arrogant, smart, and tough. His girlfriend Janie is his take-no-prisoners business partner. They ride the big wave of ambition and wealth, self-involved and self-satisfied. But when Barry needs a new heart, he descends into a comically callous world of medically inept doctors and hard-bitten nurses. As he recuperates, he finds that everything feels wrong. What are these feelings, these thoughts, all these questions? When he shows up on the doorstep of his donor's widow, he begins a dangerous journey into the true nature of his illness and the deeper meaning of his new heart.

Great acting, Entertaining, Quirky, Clever, Funny

Ambitious, Banal, Cliched, Disappointing, Raunchy

See it if you have a free evening and want to be mildly entertained; a very predictable plot has been done before; over-the-top comedic performances

Don't see it if you want a show with a new twist; you don't mind sexy scenes which have no reason to be there; you don't mind stupid out-of-place comedy

Confusing, Cliched, Over the top acting

See it if you like experimental works in small spaces with low production values.

Don't see it if you're looking for a cogent plot or a message that hasn't been done many times before.

Also There's the kernel of a good idea here, but it doesn't quite gel, and ... Read more Read less

Relevant, Cliched, Funny

See it if you like to ponder who we are and how and if transplanted organs may impact us.

Don't see it if You expect a mature script. Play seemed somewhat incomplete with lots of ideas not fully fleshed out resulting in trite characters.

Disappointing, Insipid, Good acting, Uninvolving, Mildly funny

See it if you like farces, silly plots and stereotyped characters with some humor and good acting.

Don't see it if you like shows that have realistic perceptive characterizations and plots that provide substance for interesting analysis.

Banal, Cliched, Entertaining

See it if you like silly plays with good and amusing acting.

Don't see it if you want a sophisticated, meaningful play with interesting staging and scenery.

Ambitious, Slow, Confusing/contradictory in spots, Good acting

See it if you'd like to support the arts, eclectic theater, and artists honing their craft.

Don't see it if you'd prefer a big broadway production.

Also the actors playing barry and lorna were good. the others were a bit an... Read more Read less

Ambitious, Edgy, Quirky, Raunchy, Indulgent

See it if an abstract and a bit absurd take on a serious topic is to your liking

Don't see it if you don't like your plays being too eccentric

Cliched, Excruciating, Banal, Fluffy

See it if You don't care about the writing and acting The writing needs major help.

Don't see it if If you are inclined to good writing, plot, directing, acting.

Good acting, Ambitious, Annoying, Indulgent, Relevant

See it if You need an irony booster. One character says it best, "I hate your lousy irony." The acting is good. There is an "ah ha," at the end.

Don't see it if Maybe it's me. I could find no sympathy for, nor interest in a loud-mouthed, arrogant, egotistical real estate guy.

See it if you are fascinated by how having a transplanted organ might change your personality. You like a mixture of drama with some huge comedy.

Don't see it if you think transplanting organs/personality is a not terribly important thing to think about.

Also I saw this show when they had a light board that didn't work so it was... Read more Read less

Quirky, Confusing, Disappointing

See it if The basic subject matter is thought-provoking and the acting is pretty good.

Don't see it if The story line jumps around too much.

Disappointing, Banal, Cliched, Predictable, Excruciating

See it if Remember years ago on TV-Dallas got so crazy they had Bobby come back to life and dream the whole last season away? If you liked that...???

Don't see it if You want any sort of originality or meaning or ANY reason to see this play...other than pretty good acting and odd direction.

During previews
Clever, Confusing, Edgy

See it if you enjoy an interesting plot. A man who has no heart gets a new heart and reacts. A bit overdone and a little confusing but interesting.

Don't see it if you don't like characters who keep yelling. A comedy with a serious idea that needs some work done to make it more effective.

"Initially confounding but builds to a satisfying climax...It’s meant to be overblown and not at all realistic, and at times is hilarious...Shankman has the confidence to be jagged and confusing and pulls it all off with skillfully rendered surrealistic antics. George’s staging is artfully brisk ...

"Combines elements of farce with moments of poignancy. Lively scene changes and uptempo music ensure you don’t dose. The solid cast includes Kevin Sims, who portrays a dizzying array of male doctors...But it is Barbra Wengard who steals the show. Channeling two helpings of Marisa Tomei, she movin...
