About the show

This musical tells the story of a high school where everyone is pop punk, it's always 2003, and there's never been anything cooler than shredding, pizza, and flipping off your lame-ass parents. More…

Derek, a young wannabe pop-punk frontman, wants nothing more than to become king of Pop Punk High and win Amanda Bunkface's angsty, straight-ironed love. It seems all but impossible for a loser like Derek, but when he finds a bong in his attic containing the ghost/genie of Avril Lavigne, his wildest dreams may become reality after all. 'Pop Punk High' features a score reminiscent of blink-182 and Sum 41, and a book full of obscene humor.

Funny, Entertaining, Quirky, Clever, Great singing

Ambitious, Disappointing, Dizzying, Quirky, Excruciating

See it if You have great nostalgia for 2000's punk music/culture. You enjoy excellent but brief character acting by the lead's parents.

Don't see it if You dislike "immersive" theatre where performers join a standing crowd. You are bored by in-jokes within in-jokes, including penis humor.

Disappointing, High energy

See it if you're passionate about experimental theater or love that pop/punk era of music.

Don't see it if You're looking for something to hold your attention. Once you get past the authentic-feeling club setting, there isn't much to this show

Cliched, Disappointing, Slow, Raunchy, Funny

See it if You're in high school yourself or you're angling for a job on the Supreme Court.

Don't see it if you're to old to stand for four hours. Everything else I've seen at this venue has had cabaret tables. Just plywood floor for this one.

Also It was extraordinarily campy. There were parts that were funny, but I'... Read more Read less

“An inventive, loud, and ridiculously entertaining piece of musical theatre...An attempt to flip the high school story from cute to raucous. With a trite but efficient book...and deliberately rabid and rough music & lyrics...the rebellious but traditional tale...played with an over-the-top cartoo...

“Hilarious...Wildly comical and stridently raunchy...A spot-on laugh-out-loud farce of juvenile dreams, filled with the pop-culture references, language, aesthetics, and emo of the era...The ensemble of actors and musicians is across-the-board terrific, with powerhouse vocals and outrageously fun...

"The show is an unstoppable testament to strong women realizing their power should not be taken by weaker men...This musical feels accessible and gives the crowd a chance to partake...By the end of its 90 minutes people knew hooks, harmonies, and choruses as if they had written the musical’s song...
