About the show

The latest comic melodrama written by and starring Charles Busch tells the story of one woman’s tumultuous passage from convent girl to glittering cabaret chanteuse to infamous madame of a string of brothels. More…

Behind her every move lies her greatest secret, her undying devotion to the child she was forced to abandon. Played against the gaudy tapestry of turn of the century California’s notorious Barbary Coast, and directed by his Busch's long-time colleague Carl Andress, 'The Confession of Lily Dare' celebrates the gauzy “confession film” tearjerkers of early 1930’s pre-code cinema.

Don't see it if You don't have any sense of humor

Great acting, Hilarious, Masterful

See it if Campy comedy from convent to cabaret to brothel w/ Busch imprimatur. Spirited production w/ Van Dyck of special note. Downtown theatre lives

Don't see it if Unaccustomed to what downtown theatre provides or expectant of polish and sheen.

Absorbing, Clever, Entertaining, Funny, Quirky

See it if you have never seen a Charles Busch play. This is one of his best plays in a long time. It is both funny and moving.

Don't see it if you are uncomfortable with drag shows. Or if you do not like a certain genre of film from the 1930's-40's.

Busch's new romp in film noir drag

See it if Busch and cast in top form in rags to riches to rags laughfest. Van Dyke and Borg over the top in multiple zany roles. Charles sings, too

Don't see it if camp is not your thing. McGillin is smooth as elegant mobster. Moves along with rapid-fire laughs. A Busch winner. Camp at its zenith.

Delightful, Enchanting, Funny, Great acting, Hilarious

See it if you want to be totally entertained by Charles Busch's latest brilliant comedy with Bush and the entire cast performing to perfection.

Don't see it if you are not a fan of Charles Busch's style comedy and his take on the great dames of the movies all rolled into one.

Clever, Delightful, Hilarious, Fluffy, Fun

See it if you've seen and loved Charles Busch previously; you enjoy campy, campy, campy productions

Don't see it if you do not like seeing a man pretending to be a woman; you don't enjoy silly plays even if they're a lot of fun

Masterful, Indulgent, Entertaining

See it if Pure campy fun is what you are the mood for. Charles Busch in all innocents chews up the scenery for two hours and spits it on your face.

Don't see it if A parody of old movies bunched together to make a story line believable is not your scene. Can't believe a man can play a virginal girl.
