T. Schreiber Theatre presents Stephen Adly Guirgis' Tony-nominated play, a darkly comic tale about friendship, love, addiction, and the difficulties of adulthood. More…
Jackie, a petty drug dealer, is just out of prison and trying to stay clean. But he's still in love with his coke-addicted childhood sweetheart, Veronica. Ralph D. is Jackie's too-smooth, slightly slippery sponsor. He's married to the bitter and disaffected Victoria, who, by the way, has the hots for Jackie. And then there's Julio, Jackie's cousin…a stand-up, "stand by me" kind of guy.
See it if You want to see inventive staging and solid performances in an intimate setting. Robby Ramos and Jill Bianchini kill it!
Don't see it if You are uncomfortable with foul language or sexual content
See it if Superb staging and directing, acting is ok but not front-row quality. I wish the same troupe chose to use better source material.
Don't see it if The script could use lots of cutting, it's way too reliant on rather obvious plot turns and the acting isn't good enough to cover for that.
See it if You like plays about tough issues like family, relationships, crime and drug/alcohol addiction. You like intense dialog, great dialog.
Don't see it if You are easily offended by raunchy language and very adult themes. A lot of cursing and sexual themes. You prefer light hearted shows.
See it if You want to enjoy a great script and can ignore some poor casting choices.
Don't see it if You want the two leads to ring true. This director seems to have taken all the edge/street out of what should be two strong characters.
See it if You can tolerate a great play done wrong - unfortunately the direction & some of the performances are not up to Adly Guris's pace & ferocity
Don't see it if You have never seen this play - because it's really a masterpiece when done right & it would be wise to wait for a stronger production
See it if You like upbeat drama's with a lot of funny moments and a big surprise.
Don't see it if You are a prude, or sanctimonious, or if there are certain taboos you have that turn you off if broken, you need all to end happy
See it if You like a good, clean play with good clean acting - and by clean I mean solid and bullshit-free.
Don't see it if You prefer singing and dancing, which is fine, this just isn't that.
