Shakespeare's eventful tale of hardship, enchantment and love set on a distant magical island.

Famous for its supernatural characters and 'New World' influences, The Tempest follows the story of Prospero and his daughter Miranda. Banished from their own land, they now live on an enchanted island surrounded by mystery and magical beings. In order for Prospero to forgive past wrongdoing and to escape their circumstances, the pair must conquer treachery with the help of the island's inhabitants and the healing power of love. Brendan O’Hea directs the Globe's 2021 production.

Both plays suffer somewhat from pacing problems, though in opposite directions: The Tempest feels oddly slow at times, while As You Like It rushes. But both are shaped with sparkling clarity, every line, speech, and scene given its due.
