A Grain of Sand follows Renad, a young girl from Gaza, as she undertakes a perilous journey in search of her family amid the devastation of war. Guided by memories of her grandmother’s stories and her own imagination, Renad clings to the legend of the Anqaa, the mythical Palestinian phoenix, as both a symbol and a destination. The narrative unfolds through the perspective of a child, tracing Renad’s movement through fractured landscapes where folklore, memory, and lived experience intersect.

The one-woman show is written and directed by Elias Mattar and performed by Sarah Agha. Drawing on Palestinian folklore alongside real-life testimonies from children living in contemporary Gaza, the piece weaves traditional myth with documented experiences of conflict.
