About the Show

A biographical musical tracing Claude Monet’s struggle to complete The Water Lilies.

Set in Paris in 1916, the musical centres on Claude Monet as he struggles to complete The Water Lilies, a commission tied directly to his survival during the First World War. Facing creative block as war presses in, Monet retreats into memory, revisiting his early artistic life alongside contemporaries including Renoir and Manet, and reflecting on his relationship with his muse, Camille Doncieux.

The musical is written by Carmel Owen, who also serves as composer and lyricist. The production is directed by Christian Durham. Musical direction is by Michael Webborn, with design by Libby Todd and video design by Matt Powell.
