Grace is waiting in a hospital A&E on the Winter Solstice of 2026 when an encounter with Merlin transports her to sixth-century Britain. There she meets the young Arthur, who has been sent on a quest to retrieve Excalibur for the future king. As their worlds collide, the pair must work together to overcome mythical dangers and navigate an ancient forest while the future of Britain hangs in the balance.

The play is written by Marietta Kirkbride (Our Church; The Wizard of Oz at the Watermill Theatre) and directed by Nel Crouch (The Tempest at Shakespeare North). It features original songs and music by composer and musical director Harry Blake, with set and costume design by Rebecca Jane Wood.

Produced by Polka Theatre and The Egg, Theatre Royal Bath, Arthur is a family play with original songs that draws on Arthurian legend while connecting contemporary life with medieval myth through the parallel stories of Grace and Arthur.
