Set in Havana in 2016, the play follows 21-year-old Fanuco, who is rescued from an attack by an American woman he believes to be a benevolent stranger. Hoping to learn English and secure a path out of Cuba, he seeks her guidance, unaware that she is Assata Shakur—an escaped U.S. convict and former Black Panther living in exile. As lessons unfold, admiration and ambition give way to ideological friction, with generational perspectives on resistance, refuge, and aspiration colliding.

The fictional two-hander reimagines an encounter with Assata Shakur, examining how political narratives shift depending on vantage point. Written by Kalungi Ssebandeke, the play returns in revival nearly a decade after its world premiere.
