A sailor’s silence leads to a flawed trial in this staged concert with live sea shanties.
A young sailor is conscripted onto a British warship during a time of unrest, where his charm and innocence quickly set him apart. When the ship’s master-at-arms falsely accuses him of inciting mutiny, he is unable to speak in his own defense. A sudden act of violence triggers a court-martial, forcing the crew to navigate a deeply compromised process of justice.
Adapted from Herman Melville’s novella, this new music theatre production is presented in a staged concert format and incorporates traditional sea shanties sung by the ensemble, including “Drunken Sailor,” “Wellerman,” and “Blow the Man Down.”
