Two new dance works by Crystal Pite and Kameron N. Saunders explore the human condition.
Body & Soul presents a compelling double bill from two leading choreographic voices. In Body and Soul (Part I), acclaimed choreographer Crystal Pite examines the physical and emotional dimensions of grief. Originally created for the Paris Opera Ballet, the piece unfolds through intimate duets and collective movement, exploring the conflict between isolation and connection. Dancers shift fluidly between individual and ensemble forms, evoking the rhythm of mourning and renewal.
With new music by Harold Walker III and Brandon Finklea, orchestrated by Gavin Sutherland, Saunders’s piece merges contemporary ballet technique with dynamic rhythm and cultural pulse, reflecting on identity and creative expression.
Presented by English National Ballet, the evening combines the precision of classical form with the urgency of modern storytelling. Featuring designs by Jay Gower Taylor and Kimie Nakano, lighting by Tom Visser, and additional music by Frédéric Chopin, this mixed programme situates the human body as both vessel and voice, where emotion and motion converge in a shared language of movement.
