After being brought up by her father, Ella loves nothing more than birdwatching with him. But when her father marries again, everything changes. Under the strict control of her new stepmother and tormented by her new step-sister and step-brother, all the magic seems to have gone from Ella's life. Her life takes a turn for the better when she meets a fellow birdwatcher in the forest, receives an invitation to a ball at the palace, and discovers there’s a lot more to those birds than she first thought.
