An actor hired as a ghost finds fiction and reality colliding inside a remote country manor.
An out-of-work actor accepts a lucrative job portraying a ghost at an isolated countryside manor, expecting routine scares for visiting guests. As the nights progress, the boundaries between performance and lived experience begin to erode. What starts as a controlled role gradually takes on a more unsettling presence, as the manor reveals layers of menace and ambiguity that resist explanation.
The play is written by Tim Foley, winner of the Bruntwood Prize, whose work frequently explores masculinity, class, and psychological tension. Direction is by Neil Bettles, Artistic Director of ThickSkin Theatre, whose previous productions include Peak Stuff and How Not To Drown. Their collaboration continues a series of formally inventive plays developed through touring and regional production.
The production incorporates immersive sound, stylised visual design, and precise staging to support the narrative’s shifting realities. Design contributions include sound by Pete Malkin and video and lighting by Joshua Pharo, with set design by Neil Bettles and Tom Robbins. The piece is staged without an interval and runs continuously for ninety minutes.
