A play inspired by the true story of Afghanistan’s first youth music TV show.

Two TV presenters in Kabul boldly attempt to rebuild a new Afghanistan after the US invasion. A true story inspired by the events surrounding Afghanistan's first youth music TV programme.

Actor/Writer Waleed Akhtar's debut play is set to pop music from the early 2000s. This includes hits such as 'Push the Button' by the Sugababes, 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' by Britney Spears and 'Shape of My Heart' by the Backstreet Boys.

A Brixton House production, presented with HighTide in association with the Mercury Theatre Colchester. Anna Himali Howard directs.

Anna Himali Howard’s production pulses with energy. As a story, it’s compelling, and though Akhtar’s play could do a better job of putting it in its political context. Nik and Nyx are perfectly cast in the central roles, combining pop good looks with palpable charisma.

Ultimately Akhtar’s play is uneven but refreshing in its insistence on the hope shared by Afghanistan’s youth in the early 00s.
