A vibrant comic opera returns as love, laughter, and high notes dazzle in Donizetti’s classic tale.
Laurent Pelly’s acclaimed staging of Donizetti’s comic opera La Fille du Régiment returns to the Royal Opera House. The story follows Marie, a spirited young woman raised by a French regiment, and Tonio, the peasant who joins the army to win her love, unfolding in a mix of romance, comedy, and vocal fireworks.
The revival features tenor Juan Diego Flórez reprising his celebrated role as Tonio, sharing the part with Jonah Hoskins. Making her Royal Opera debut, soprano Sara Blanch sings Marie, the opera’s plucky heroine.
The production is conducted by Yves Abel, bringing Donizetti’s lively score to life in a performance that combines virtuoso singing with Pelly’s signature humor and theatrical flair.
