Immature, Dark, Cliched, Disappointing, Dated

See it if You liked Six - this feels very copy and paste. It’s a combination of loud rock music and teen fan girl heaven.

Don't see it if You don’t like ear-damaging loud music. The Six/Heathers esque phenomenon is lost on you.

Great writing, Great staging, Great singing, Great acting, Clever

See it if You want an all female cast of powerhouse vocals and incredible acting. Similar to six, but ten times better. The entire show is great.

Don't see it if You hate musicals or pop vocals as it has a rock edge woven into the period style of the piece. Also, it’s very gruesome and mad, very cool.

“There’s a lot of potential for ‘Lizzie The Musical’ to be a major hit - its focus on true crime gives it a wide audience, while the sapphic romance puts a fresh spin on the story. The book and lyrics could do with some rewrites, the score with a little more variety, but there’s no denying that this production is an impressive feat.”

“Whelton’s production is a stylish and unquestionably bad-ass fusion of gig and musical. Musical director Honor Halford-MacLeod negotiates the uncompromising score to perfection, with a four-piece band veering confidently between the heady power ballads and full-on, soaring rock anthems that tell ‘Lizzie’s’ story.”

"Come for a handful of blistering sequences, four superb voices and Andrew Exeter’s pleasing set design, which has numerous pairs of conspiratorial pigeons beadily eyeing the action."

“There’s a lot to love here, it’s always great to see a queer story, a female-led show, and something different. The music is the highlight of the production, and the stellar cast is nothing short of exceptional. But there is some work to be done to ensure the story they wish to tell is clear, and for the show to have a cohesive feel, plus, it could be slightly darker and gritter.”

“Everything about ‘Lizzie’ was a dream, from the vocals to the acting to the simple yet effective set, the concert-style lighting, and, of course, the story itself...If you love true crime, strong women, rock and roll, musicals, love stories, and comedy, you’ll love ‘Lizzie’. How could you not? It’s a whacking good time.”

“ ‘LIZZIE’ has a fantastic cast with incredibly talented singers. Each gives a strong and impressive performance. The true crime musical is unique and absolutely captivating but could be even better with a few alterations. It’s a fun, killer night out where the energy is infectious and the atmosphere is electric.”
