A musical boarding-school adventure of friendship, rivalry, storms and growing up.
Darrell Rivers arrives at a Cornish boarding school determined to make her mark, but her quick temper soon tests new friendships. As she navigates life at school, she clashes with the spoiled Gwendoline Lacey, grows closer to Sally Hope, helps save a school play, and faces unexpected challenges including a dramatic storm that puts fellow pupil Mary Lou in danger. Based on Enid Blyton’s beloved novels, the story follows a group of young girls learning resilience, loyalty and independence during their years at Malory Towers.
The musical is adapted and directed by Emma Rice (The Red Shoes, Wuthering Heights, Wise Children), with music by Ian Ross. Rice’s adaptation draws together characters and storylines from Blyton’s school stories while incorporating live music and ensemble-driven staging.
Produced by Emma Rice Company in collaboration with Alexandra Palace Theatre, Belgrade Theatre, HOME Manchester, and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, the production combines period-inspired settings with contemporary theatrical storytelling. The 2026 London engagement takes place at Alexandra Palace Theatre following a UK tour.
