Based on Max Olesker’s memoir Making the Cut: An Unorthodox Love Story, this solo play recounts a personal journey that begins when Max falls in love with Eliana in Edinburgh. Their relationship takes an unexpected turn when he learns that, in order to marry her within her Orthodox Jewish community, he must undergo a religious conversion despite already being Jewish.

As he navigates the requirements, traditions, and challenges that follow, Max confronts questions about faith, identity, family, and belonging. Blending humour with personal reflection, the play explores the complexities of love and the search for connection across different expressions of culture and belief.

Adapted from Olesker’s memoir and directed by Tom Parry, the production draws on true events to tell a story of romance, self-discovery, and commitment.
