Set within a university bedroom, the play follows a young Black gay student known as “Monkeyface” as he moves through the intense social and emotional terrain of Freshers Week. What begins with familiar experiences—new friendships, nightlife, and shifting group dynamics—gradually gives way to isolation, pressure, and instability. As relationships turn toxic and expectations mount, his sense of self is tested within an environment that feels increasingly hostile.

Structured as an intimate character study, the piece examines identity, belonging, and mental health within university culture. Through a raw and personal lens, the narrative explores how connection and exclusion can coexist, and how survival becomes an active, daily effort in spaces that fail to provide support.
