A mixed reality installation exploring the impact of austerity on disabled people in the UK.

This mixed reality installation uses verbatim testimony to examine the impact of austerity measures on disabled people in the UK. Informed by the 2016 United Nations inquiry that identified “grave or systemic violations” of disabled people’s rights, the production places viewers inside a holographic gallery experienced through a mixed reality headset.

Created by theatre and XR director Sacha Wares in collaboration with journalist John Pring of Disability News Service, the piece blends elements of theatre, documentary, and immersive technology to present individual accounts within a broader historical and political context. It has received recognition including a nomination for Best Digital Innovation at the UK Theatre Awards, a finalist spot in the XR History Awards, and the Best Immersive Production prize at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
