Emma Frankland reimagines Nirvana’s 1993 MTV Unplugged through theatre and grunge.
A radical reimagining of Nirvana’s iconic 1993 MTV Unplugged concert, *No Apologies* combines theatre, grunge, autobiography and alternate history. The production draws on pop culture, mythology and ritual, alongside themes rooted in coming of age in the 1990s. It incorporates live music, movement, poetry and theatrical spectacle, with haze, smoke, flashing lights and loud music.
Created and directed by Emma Frankland, the production follows her practice of combining theatre with music, movement and multimedia. Frankland is a performance maker and artist whose work includes *Hearty* and *The Mermaid*, and whose work has been presented internationally. *No Apologies* received the Bragi Award for creativity and artistic excellence and a Besties Award for new writing during its 2025 Edinburgh Festival run.
The production is presented by Marlborough Productions and is suitable for ages 16 and over. It contains references to suicide, violence, drug addiction, transphobia and homophobia. All performances are captioned.
