An epic new musical of forbidden love and defiance set in 18th-century Bristol’s Redcliffe.
After a series of sold-out workshop performances at The Other Palace in 2024, Redcliffe, a new musical written and performed by Jordan Luke Gage (Bonnie & Clyde, Heathers, & Juliet), makes its fully staged debut at Southwark Playhouse Borough in May 2026.
Set in 18th-century England and inspired by a haunting true story from Bristol’s Redcliffe district, the show follows William Critchard, a man of modest origins, whose encounter with sailor Richard Arnold ignites a passionate and dangerous romance. As their love deepens amidst an era of persecution and secrecy, both men are forced to confront the limits of freedom, faith, and courage.
Blending sweeping emotion with historical depth, Redcliffe is a stirring tale of devotion, defiance, and the enduring power of love against all odds.
