Biblical opera by Camille Saint-Saëns, directed by Richard Jones, sung in French.
The biblical tale of Samson et Dalila tells the story of Samson, leader of the Israelites, who inspires his people to rise against Philistine oppression. His devotion is tested when he falls under the spell of Dalila, whose seduction leads him to betray the secret of his strength.
This staging is directed by Richard Jones, whose previous opera productions include Hansel and Gretel (Metropolitan Opera) and The Nose (Royal Opera). The production features set designs by Hyemi Shin, costumes by Nicky Gillibrand, and lighting by Andreas Fuchs, with choreography by Lucy Burge. Conductor Alexander Soddy leads the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House in Saint-Saëns’ score, which includes Dalila’s famous aria “Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix” and the dramatic Bacchanale.
