A couple near a radiation zone confront buried secrets when an old friend returns.
Set on the edge of a radiation exclusion zone after an unspecified catastrophe, The Children follows Hazel and Robin as they attempt to maintain a sense of routine in isolation. Their fragile normality is disrupted when their former colleague and friend Rose arrives unexpectedly, bringing unresolved tensions and a proposal that forces the trio to confront questions of responsibility, sacrifice, and generational accountability. Lucy Kirkwood’s play combines domestic realism with dark comedy and political undercurrents.
The production is written by Lucy Kirkwood and directed by Rachel O'Riordan, Artistic Director of the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. The creative team also includes set and costume designer Gary McCann, lighting designer Anna Watson, and sound designer Holly Khan.
