Comic opera with a new English libretto set at a lively village fête beside a chocolate factory.
Set beside a bustling chocolate factory during a lively village fête, this new staging of The Elixir of Love follows the lovestruck Nemorino as he searches for a way to win the independent Adina's affection. When the boastful Belcore arrives intent on marrying Adina and the travelling salesman Dulcamara offers a supposed magical elixir, misunderstandings and comic complications unfold.
The production features Gaetano Donizetti's celebrated score with a new English libretto by David Eaton, who also serves as musical director. It is directed by John Wilkie and produced by John Savournin (Artistic Director of Waterperry Opera Festival and Charles Court Opera). Designs are by Ceci Calf, with lighting design by Jake Wiltshire.
The classic comic opera is reimagined in an English village fête setting while retaining Donizetti's original music.
