Set in London in 1929, the play unfolds around the Midnight Bell pub, where barman Bob dreams of becoming a writer and barmaid Ella quietly longs for Bob’s affection. Their fragile routines are disrupted when Bob becomes infatuated with Jenny Maple, a mysterious prostitute whose presence draws him into emotional and financial ruin. As their lives intersect, each character searches for intimacy and meaning amid the isolation of city life.
The production is adapted from Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky by Simon Reade, based on the work of novelist Patrick Hamilton, known for Gaslight, Rope, and Hangover Square.
