A highly modern new musical about warring tribes and one woman's challenge to choose her own path.

The natural world is at the centre of all life on the alternative earth of "Vanara The Musical". Two tribes clash over the powerful element of fire and who can possess it. A crucial decision falls to Vanara, who must choose between the old ways and the new. Featuring modern dance and modern stage technology with score by Gianluca Cucchiara, lyrics by Andrew James Whelan, and book by Michael Conley.

Vanara falls short at the moment but there’s a theme that will engage younger audiences, songs that pull at the heartstrings and a cast who can sing really well, so there’s the raw material in place for the upcoming tour.

Michael Conley’s portentous book is stultifying in places, bogged down in exposition, with most conversations turning into tediously long discussions and debates.

There are some redeeming individual performances from the cast, particularly stand-outs Kayleigh McKnight as Sindah and Emily Bautista as Ayla, but, honestly, they are left with far too much to do here.
