The story follows Bettie, a young girl who finds peace and certainty in the forest she loves. When her favorite tree is threatened with destruction, Bettie is forced to confront change and uncertainty. On the eve of the woodcutters’ arrival, she meets Paida Moyo, a bold and enigmatic stranger whose presence sets in motion a journey shaped by resistance, connection, and discovery. Together, they navigate questions of protection, responsibility, and what it means to stand up for a place that feels like home.

Written by Tatenda Naomi Matsvai, the production is told through poetry, songs, live music, and storytelling, drawing on Zimbabwean heritage and folklore. Brave Bettie is a co-production between Half Moon Theatre and Z-arts, combining their shared focus on creating imaginative, socially engaged theatre for young audiences.
