Interactive outdoor adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's classic with music and audience participation.
Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows follows the adventures of Mole, Ratty, Badger, Otter, and the impulsive Mr. Toad as they navigate life along the riverbank. This outdoor adaptation combines the familiar story with music, audience participation, and pantomime-style comedy, inviting young theatre-goers to join the action as the Head Chief Rabbit leads them into the adventure.
The production is adapted by Glenn Elston OAM, founder of the Australian Shakespeare Company and creator of the company's long-running outdoor family theatre productions. It is directed by Otis Elson, with staging designed for performance in the natural surroundings of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Presented by the Australian Shakespeare Company, this 40th anniversary production is performed beside the lake at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, from 18 July to 23 August 2026. The open-air production continues the company's tradition of presenting interactive family theatre in outdoor settings, with admission to Kew Gardens included in the ticket.
