Set in an English country house across two time periods, the play follows parallel narratives unfolding in 1809 and the present day. In the past, Thomasina Coverly, a gifted young mathematician, explores ideas about nature, chaos and the limits of knowledge. In the present, writer Hannah Jarvis researches a historical mystery involving Lord Byron, approaching her subject with academic precision. As the timelines intersect, questions of discovery, truth and interpretation emerge across generations.

This production of Tom Stoppard’s play is directed by Carrie Cracknell, whose previous work includes productions at the National Theatre and on Broadway. Following a run at The Old Vic, the staging transfers to the West End, continuing its presentation of Stoppard’s text through a contemporary directorial approach.

The engagement takes place at the Duke of York’s Theatre, which has been reconfigured in the round for this production. Opening from 20 June, the run is scheduled for a limited 12-week engagement.
