Set during the final weeks of Jesus Christ’s life, the musical retells the events leading to his crucifixion through the perspective of Judas Iscariot. The story follows Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene and the political and religious figures surrounding them, with the action shaped by a rock score featuring “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Gethsemane” and “Superstar.”

The production is directed by Timothy Sheader, whose credits include *Into the Woods* (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) and *Guys and Dolls* (Bridge Theatre). Choreography is by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie (*In the Heights*, *King Kong*), with design by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Tom Scutt (*Cabaret*, *The Little Big Things*). Andrew Lloyd Webber provides the music and Tim Rice the lyrics.

Sam Ryder makes his West End stage debut as Jesus, with Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene and David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate in the Theatre Royal Drury Lane engagement. The production also features a rotating series of performers as King Herod, including Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob the Drag Queen, Michael Ball, Simon Russell Beale, Omid Djalili and Layton Williams.
