Set in Renaissance Verona, this ballet adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy follows Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, whose romance develops despite the bitter conflict between their families. As tensions between the Montagues and Capulets intensify, the pair attempt to preserve their relationship in a world shaped by violence, loyalty, and social division. Their efforts to remain together lead to a series of events with irreversible consequences.

Created by Rudolf Nureyev in 1977, the production returns to the London Coliseum in its anniversary year. The ballet is performed to Sergei Prokofiev’s score, played live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic, including the celebrated “Dance of the Knights.”
