Story-driven theatrical concert exploring life and inspiration scored with music by Philip Glass.
Inspired by a dream and anchored in Taoist wisdom, this hybrid theatrical concert interweaves ten meditations on life, loss and the essence of inspiration with ten newly composed pieces of music by Philip Glass. The production balances narrative fragments with live performance elements and an ensemble of musicians and puppeteers to explore fundamental questions about creativity and existence.
The work is composed by Philip Glass, the American minimalist composer whose music spans opera, chamber ensemble, orchestra, dance and film, and written and co-directed by theatrical creator Phelim McDermott, a founder member of Improbable whose previous work includes international productions of opera and theatre.
Produced by Factory International in collaboration with Improbable and Nica Burns, this staging at @sohoplace marks the West End premiere of the work, following its original run at the Manchester International Festival in 2019.
