In this reimagined staging of Tosca, opera singer Floria Tosca prepares to meet her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, inside a concert hall located in a European state affected by civil conflict. Their plans are disrupted when the authoritarian police chief Scarpia intervenes, turning a space dedicated to music into one marked by intimidation, surveillance, and violence. Over the course of a single night, Tosca is drawn into a struggle involving political power, personal loyalty, and survival.

Directed by ENO Artistic Director Annilese Miskimmon, the production reframes Puccini’s opera within a contemporary setting shaped by censorship and instability, emphasizing themes of artistic resistance and the human consequences of oppression.
