Two of Shaw’s most renowned women come to blows as Mrs. Warren and her daughter Vivie struggle to connect to one another in spite of their very different views on women, morality, and business. Shaw’s play was thought of as explosive when it premiered in 1905, eliciting ire from the Lord Chamberlain’s office for its frank exploration of the hypocrisy surrounding prostitution, and is still relevant today.
