About the Show

Pulitzer Prize winner Martyna Majok's play about two young DREAMers establishing themselves in America.

In Newark, NJ, post 9/11, two teenagers who came to America as children become one another’s sanctuaries. When G becomes a naturalized citizen, she and B hatch a plan to get married so that B can remain in the U.S. and pursue his dreams. However, the marriage puts a wedge between this once inseparable pair.

"Sanctuary City" was originally produced by New York Theatre Workshop, and had an Off-Broadway engagement in 2020 and again in 2021. The show was the recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award.
