About the show

This new musical follows The Temptations' extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff ("Jersey Boys").

With their signature dance moves and unmistakable harmonies, they rose to the top of the charts, creating an amazing 42 Top Ten Hits with 14 reaching number one. The rest is history — how they met, the groundbreaking heights they hit, and how personal and political conflicts threatened to tear the group apart as the United States fell into civil unrest. This story of brotherhood, family, loyalty, and betrayal is set to the beat of the group's treasured hits, including “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination,” “Get Ready,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” and so many more.

Ambitious, Fun, Entertaining, Great choreo

See it if Fun music, impressive dancing and choreo delight. Smooth transitions from scene to scene. Lively entertainment.

Don't see it if It covers a lot of material across a vast array of characters so much is only touched on briefly. Limited depth of character development

Also Some in the audience seem to be unable to resist singing along. This w... Read more Read less

Indulgent, Awful book, Great staging, Great singing, Entertaining

See it if You need to kick start your inner Temptations discography though you won't hear a single complete song, and and want to remember their moves

Don't see it if You detest jukebox musicals, might resent that this is a vanity piece for the only original Temptation alive, Otis Williams, who is'''godly"

Also The talent onstage is enormous in both singing and dancing departments... Read more Read less

Too many undeserved tony nominations

See it if you love the music of the Temptations. See it if you must see every musical nominated for a Tony. See it for some fine performances.

Great dancing, Ambitious, Great singing, Entertaining

See it if If you are a Motown fan and are not going to spend the show picking the dancing to pieces. It’s very technically ambitious. Incredibly fun.

Don't see it if If you’re not up for well-done, but a bit clichéd jukebox musical. I was hoping for a bit more than a life story of the band.

Also It’s sooo close to great, and perhaps I’m being picky.

Great dancing, Great singing

See it if You're a fan of The Temptations, tight harmonies, and smooth moves. You like exploring how race impacts music trends.

Don't see it if You don't like Motown. The book is like a dry reading of The Temp's Wikipedia page.

Great staging, Great singing, Funny, Entertaining

See it if Temptations jukebox musical is very entertaining and lots of nostalgia factor esp. for those from the era.

Don't see it if Another jukebox musical turns you off

Resonant, Entertaining, Must see, Great staging, Great singing

See it if It does everything right Jersey Boys did wrong. I mean I even liked the use of the turntable. And I never like those.

Don't see it if You don’t like that style of music, but that should be obvious 🤷🏻‍♂️

Entertaining, Great acting, Great singing

See it if you enjoy the music of The Temptations - here brilliantly acted and sung by a talented ensemble of actors.

Don't see it if you do not want to see another juke box musical or craving content that is as adventurous and profound as these performers.

Thought-provoking, Resonant, Great singing, Entertaining

See it if You like Jersey Boys and want to hear some of the best vocals in a show. Better than your usual jukebox and very insightful and moving.

Don't see it if You don't like soul and motown music. Also, the lighting/projection use can be dizzying at times.

75
Cliched jukebox fare, Great music, Entertaining

See it if you like musicals based on music legends, that play through all their favorite songs, wrapped around a thin worn-out story to hold it together

Don't see it if if you can't take another predictable by-the-numbers rise-and-fall of music group jukebox musical that is just going through the motions.

78
Entertaining - broad but not deep

See it if you like the music of the Temptations, generally enjoy musicals, and are interested in their back story.

Don't see it if You're looking for something deeper. This is an entertaining show but it only skates along the surface.

Great singing, Refreshing, Masterful, Great acting, Entertaining

See it if you love the Temptations' music & want to see a top-notch jukebox production. Very well done, hits all the right notes (not just sung ones)!

Educating, Slow, Entertaining, Great dancing, Great singing

See it if If you love the Temptations and would enjoy learning about their journey to success. The harmonies and dancing are great. Story is meh.

Don't see it if Word of warning - some people in the audience sing along and (in my case) sing loudly off key, so I couldn't hear the performers...at all:-(

Entertaining, Riveting, Masterful, Great singing, Absorbing

See it if you want a hell of a high-energy show and an audience that's super excited.

Don't see it if you want people to be calm or reserved - the audience sang along on a number of songs when I saw the show.

Also Ephraim Sykes is a national treasure, and I will fight anyone who says... Read more Read less
