A revival of Clifford Odets' Depression-era drama about three generations of a Bronx family.
Awake and Sing! is set in the Bronx during the 1930s, where three generations of the Berger family live together in a cramped tenement, divided by competing visions of what a better life might look like. Against the backdrop of the Great Depression's poverty and disillusionment, the play traces the tensions between old convictions and new ideas as the family negotiates survival, ambition, and the gap between expectation and reality.
The revival is directed by Tyne Rafaeli and brings Clifford Odets' play back to Broadway. The production examines generational conflict and the persistence of the American dream under economic and social strain.
