Shakespeare’s comedy follows the sparring relationship between Beatrice and Benedick, whose sharp wit and mutual resistance to romance become entangled with the courtship of the younger Hero and Claudio. Through overheard conversations, mistaken assumptions and deliberate schemes, the play unfolds as a series of deceptions and revelations that culminate in multiple engagements and reconciliations.
This Broadway production stars Tom Hiddleston as Benedick and Hayley Atwell as Beatrice, under the direction of Jamie Lloyd. Hiddleston’s stage and screen work includes Betrayal and the Marvel films, while Atwell is known for Rosmersholm and Captain America. Lloyd, a Tony and Olivier Award-winning director, previously helmed Sunset Boulevard and other contemporary reinterpretations of classic texts.
Following a record-breaking run in London, the production transfers to New York for a limited 10-week engagement. The staging continues Lloyd’s collaboration with both performers, bringing the acclaimed British production to Broadway audiences.
